NARAYANGANJ: Hundreds of workers of Lipi Knitwear on Sunday staged protest on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway in Sanarpar bus stand area to press home their demand of dues salary and allowance.

Witness said the agitated workers started protest around 10:00am at the factory premises demanding payment of their due salaries and Eid bonus.

At one stage, the factory workers vandalized 10-12 vehicles and blockaded Dhaka-Chittagong Highway.

However, the protest created a huge tailback and the home-bound people faced immense sufferings.

On information police, police rushed in and brought the situation under control around 11:15am.

Director of Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) and Chairman of Labor Standing Committee said the necessary steps would be taken in this regard.

Shiddhirganj Thana Sub-Inspector Zinnah confirmed the matter to banglanews.
