DHAKA: Detectives held senior journalist Shafiqul Kabir and four members of his family on the High Court premises Monday in connection with the Jurain tragedy of death of a mother and her two children.

The others taken in are his wife Nur Banu, daughters Kabita and Shukhon and son-in-law Delwar Hossain Patwari.

Earlier in the day, the five went to the High Court for seeking bail in a case filed in connection with the triple-death, which remained shrouded in mystery.

The plainclothes cops held them as the bail prayer, submitted by Delwar, was rejected by an HC bench comprising Justice Siddiqur Rahman Mia and Justice Abdus Samad.

A heavy contingent of police was posted on the court premises ahead of appearance of the journalist family in the sensational case.

On June 10, Farzana Kabir Rita, wife of Kabir’s son, her 12-year-old son Ishrat Kabir Pabon and 10-year-old daughter Raisa Reshmi Payel were found dead in their house in the city’s Jurain area.

Rita`s mother, Mazeda Begum, filed the case with Kadamtoli Police Station against eight persons on June 11.

The accused are Rita`s husband Rashedul Kabir, his father Shafiqul Kabir, mother Noor Banu, brother-in-law Delwar Hossain, sisters Kabita and Shukhon, his second wife Smriti and driver Al Amin.
