UN to mediate in BD politics to resolve crisis

NEW YORK: United Nations (UN) is set to act as a go-between between the government and the opposition of Bangladesh during the 68th United Nations General Assembly.

Confirming the matter, an UN source said that UN Under Secretary General of Political affairs General Jeffrey Feltman is working in consideration of the matter.

In view of this, UN general secretary Ban-Ki Moon might hold meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, sources added.

UN sources further said that the UN would try to act as a mediator to resolve the ongoing political impasse in Bangladesh as they want to see a full participatory election.

UN invited the Opposition BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia to participate in the upcoming UNGA. But she informed her inability to join the meeting and promised to send to two representatives there.

UN planned to arrange a trilateral meeting in the presence of the opposition leader.

Sources confirmed that UN wants to see a full participatory election in Bangladesh.
