CHITTAGING: Chittagong Inter-district Bus Owners Association observed the half-day bus strike in the district from Wednesday morning protesting the vandalism of vehicles after an accident in Sitakunda upazila that killing a college student.
Due to the strike, no long-route bus, chair coach left the port city and none entered the city since morning, a spot account said.
The organization firstly called a 24-hour bus strike from 6:00am Wednesday demanding security on highways. Later, as per assurance of deputy commissioner AKM Hafiz Akter, the angry owners cut the strike period to 2:00pm Wednesday.
Chittagong Inter-district Bus Owners Association office secretary Hazi Manwar Ahmed told banglanews, “Protesting random vandalism of the vehicles, we are observing the half-day strike.
No long route bus left the city for any district and Kolkata.
Any bus also is not allowed to enter into the city, he added.
Vehicle movement on internal routes remained uninterrupted.
Any untoward situation was not created centering the strike, he added.
Manwar Hossain said, “The agitating students vandalized our hundreds vehicles and protesting the incident we called the strike.”
On Tuesday, a private university student was killed in a road accident at Sitakunda of the district.
