Medicine traders go on strike

DHAKA: Drug traders went on a 16-hour strike across the country, including the capital to press their eight-point demands on Thursday.

All medicine shops across the country will remain closed from 6:00am to 10:00pm.

Bangladesh Chemist and Druggist Union’s Chairman said that they were forced to enforce the strike as the government did not meet up their demands by the deadline.

Earlier on Monday, the angry medicine traders send a letter to the Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA) with their demands and threatened to keep their shops shut across the country on Thursday if their demands are not met by that time.

The demands include publishing the names of medicines and companies which declared illegal, give back of illegally seized medicines and penalty money, the list of seized medicine hand over to Bangladesh Chemists and Druggists Samity (BCDS).

On Saturday, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), in a drive, seized huge medicines and panelized several pharmacies in city’s Midford Hospital area.

Most of the Pharmacies of the capital remained closed showing their protest on the day.
