Five workers sustained burn injuries in an explosion at a steel mill in Dhaka’s Demra Konapara area on Sunday morning.

The injured are- Al Amin, 18, Jasim Uddin, 45, Imran Hossain Shanto, 23, Janu Bepari, 40 and Didar Hossain, 27. 

Three of them were admitted to the Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute.

The institute’s resident surgeon Dr Partha Shankar Pal confirmed the news. 

He said: “Al Amin, Jashim Uddin and Imran Hossain sustained 28, 20 and 40 percent burns respectively. The other two were given first aid and discharged from hospital.” 

According to one victim Al Amin, nine people were working at the mill when the incident occurred. With an abrupt blast inside the melting furnace, lumps of molten iron scattered all over the place and some of the pieces hit nearby workers.
