Robbers looted gold ornaments from 19 jewelry shops on the banks of Banshi river in Ashulia of Savar, on the outskirts of Dhaka, early hours of Monday.

Harun-or-Rashid, sub-inspector (SI) of Ashulia Police Station, confirmed this information to media.

Quoting shops owners, he said that about 60 to 70 robbers entered into the market in three engine boats between 1:00am to 2:00am in Nayarhat area with guns, pistols and locally made weapons. At one stage, they started beating the security guards of the market and the employees of various shops. At that time, they tied the shopkeepers of the shops and looted the gold ornaments in the shops.

The burglars looted 150 bhori of gold ornaments from the shops, the SI added.
