People from all walks of life paid their last tributes to eminent journalist Peer Habibur Rahman, the executive editor of the Bangladesh Pratidin, at the central Shaheed Minar by placing wreaths.
His body was kept there from 11:30 am to 12:00 pm and people paid their last tribute to him.
Meanwhile, the second janaza of Peer Habibur was held on the Jatiya Press Club premises after Zohr prayers.
Later, the mortal remains was taken to Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) where another janaza was held.
Later, the body of Peer Habib was taken to his workplace at Bangladesh Pratidin on the premises of East West Media Group Complex around 3:00pm.
The body will be taken to his home district in Sunamganj where it will be kept on the premises of Sunamganj Municipal Shaheed Minar at 12:00pm on Monday for people to pay their last tribute.
The noted journalist will be buried by his parents’ graves at the family graveyard at Maizbari village in Sadar upazila following two more janazas – one at Sunamganj Central Mosque after Zohr prayers and another at his village home.
Peer Habibur Rahman passed away at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Labaid Hospital in the capital on Saturday. He was 58.
Peer Habib left behind wife, a son, a daughter and a host of relatives, colleagues and well-wishers to mourn his death.
Earlier on Friday evening, he suffered a stroke while undergoing treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) and was later shifted to the ICU of Labaid Hospital.
Prominent journalist, political analyst and columnist, Peer Habib conquered cancer through bone marrow transplant at Jaslok Hospital in Mumbai of India in October last year.
On January 22, he got infected with Covid-19 and recovered from the virus. However, he was admitted to BSMMU as he had been suffering from different health issues like kidney disease.
President M Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of the noted journalist.
In separate condolence messages, they prayed for eternal peace of Peer Habib and conveyed their deepest sympathy to the bereaved family members.
Born in Sunamganj town on February 16, 1964, Peer Habib obtained higher education from Rajshahi University. He started journalism when he was a student of the public university in 1984.
He worked for many newspapers during his long journalism career. He also worked in the daily Bangla Bazar, Jugantor, Manobkantha, Amader Shomoy. He was also the founder of online news portal purboposhchimbd.news.
