Police arrested five leaders and activists of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami while holding a secret party meeting in Jatrabari area of the capital.
The arrestees were identified as Amir Md. Shahjahan Khan, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Metropolitan Shura Member and Amir of Jatrabari Police Station, Alauddin Al Azad, Metropolitan Shura Member and Jatrabari Police Station Secretary, Md. Mosharof Hossain, Police Station Working Council Member and 62 South Ward President and Jatrabari Police Station Baitul Mal Secretary, Md. Delwar Hossain, 62 South Ward Baitul Mal Secretary, and Md. Abdur Rahman Farayezi, 65 Ward Autorickshaw Workers Unit President.
They were arrested on a tip-off operation on Monday (Oct 31) night. At this time, various radical books and leaflets of Jamaat-e-Islami were recovered from them.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jatrabari Police Station Mazharul Islam confirmed the matter.
He said the raid was conducted on the basis of information that several Jamaat leaders and activists secretly met on the ground floor of Eamon House at Rahmatpur, Konapara farm junction for the purpose of conducting their monthly party meetings.
The arrestees have been sent to the court with a remand application with case filed at Jatrabari police station, he added.
