BOGRA: More than 100 people were injured in a clash between law enforcers and 18-party activists in the Sadar upazila of the district on Saturday afternoon.
During the time, 18-party men vandalized at least 30 vehicles and torched some other.
Witnesses said the clash erupted as the leaders and activists of 18-party tried to spread panic by blasting some cocktails after their procession in support of the hartal in the city around 4.00pm.
Police opened fire from their shotguns and more than 100 rounds of rubber bullets and threw teargas shells to bring the situation under control that continued over an hour.
District BNP office secretary Mahfuzur Rahman Razu claimed more than 200 BNP leaders and activists, including convener of district 18-party Saiful Islam, also district BNP president and general secretary Joynal Abedin Chand were injured in the attack of police.
Meanwhile, armed police and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel were deployed led by executive magistrate of the district from the evening to thwart further untoward situation.
Officer-in-Charge of Bogra Sadar Thana Syed Shahid Alam told banglanews that police fired 120 rounds from their shotguns and 20 rounds of teargas shells to protect the lives and properties of the people.
