2 BNP leaders shot in Gazipur

GAZIPUR: At least 12 people were injured, two BNP leaders by bullets, in a clash between hartal supporters and police in Tongi area of the district on Tuesday morning.

The injured are Basan Union BNP president Hazrat Ali, 60 and BNP leader Saleh Ahamed, 45.

Witnesses said that in support of hartal BNP men brought out a procession in Teknagpara area at around 9:30am. After being chased by police, the protesters started throwing brick-chips aiming police.

Later, police fired rubber bullets to bring the situation under control, leaving 12 people injured.

Meanwhile, police detained nine people including two bullet-injured BNP leaders from the spot.

Local Councilor of Gazipur City Corporation Tanvir Ahamed confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Additional police forces were deployed in the area.
