Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has announced to observe a daylong hartal across the country tomorrow (October 29).

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir made the announcement from the rally at Nayapaltan on Saturday (October 28).

The BNP leader said the hartal came in response to an attack on its party headquarters in Nayapaltan’s rally.

BNP claimed that the hartal was called in response to Awami League leaders and activists and law enforcement forces carrying out attack against their party men at different places in the capital.

Earlier today, the grand rally of BNP started in front of its Nayapaltan central office with the participation of thousands of leaders and activists of the party and its associate bodies to press home their one-point demand for holding the upcoming national election under a non-party government.

However, supporters gathered since morning today to make the rally a success.

Later, the areas surrounding the capital's Nightingale intersection turned into a battlefield as BNP men are waging a pitched battle with police and Awami League.

Later, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members were deployed in that area.
