Advocate Jamal Hossain Mia, general secretary of Nagarkanda Upazila Awami League under Faridpur District unit, has bought the nomination form of the ruling Awami League today (November 19) to contest in the next parliamentary election.
He collected the nomination forms for Faridpur-2 (Nagarkanda and Saltha) constituency from Awami League's central office at 23 Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital at 11am.
After collecting the nomination form, Jamal Hossain Mia told the journalists: "I am a hopeful candidate for the Faridpur-2 constituency. Today, I have collected the nomination form from the Awami League's party office. I led the Faridpur district Chhatra League. I was involved in student politics at Rajendra University College. I was a central leader of the Jubo League. Currently, I am serving as the general secretary of Nagarkanda Upazila Awami League and as Industry and Commerce secretary of Faridpur district Awami League."
He also mentioned, "In the prevailing situation under the BNP-Jamaat government, my family has faced a lot of oppression and persecution. I have experienced numerous harassments and attacks. I have come from a family of freedom fighters; my father was a freedom fighter. He remained loyal to the ideals of Awami League until his death. I am a man of Awami League by birth, and I believe the leaders will evaluate me."
He further stated, "Those who have relations with the grassroots, those who are selfless, and those who have connections with the Awami League activists will be valued. I am always working for the development of the people of Nagarkanda and Saltha. I believe the leaders will support me. If I am nominated, I am confident that the people of Nagarkanda-Saltha will gift the Prime Minister with an overwhelming vote."
Jamal was involved in politics with Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and was the GS of the Rajendra University College Sangsad. In his political career, he served as a member of Central Jubo League and Nagarkanda Upazila Awami League and acting general secretary of Faridpur District Chhatra League.
He obtained LLB and Masters in Political Science from National University. Currently, he is working as the Executive Director of Bashundhara Group and Chairman of Zarin Construction. Apart from this, he is the Director of Sheikh Russell Krira Chakra Limited, Vice- President of Faridpur District Sheikh Jamal Krira Chakra, member of Bangladesh Jewellers’ Association (BAJUS), member of Faridpur Chamber of Commerce and Industries, life member of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, member of District Arts Academy and managing committees of various local educational institutions.
Political Background:
Jamal Hossain Mia has come of a freedom fighter family. His father late Abu Shahid Mia was the commander of freedom fighters in Nagarkanda upazila during the liberation war in 1971. His father held various important responsibilities, including Vice-President of Nagarkanda Upazila Awami League, five time-elected chairman of Talma Union Parishad, and General Secretary of Nagarkanda Upazila Branch of Ghatak-Dalal Nirmul Committee.
Jamal Hossain's mother Delwara Begum was also elected as the chairman of Talma Union Parishad as a candidate of Awami League.
Then, his brother Kamal Hossain Mia was elected the chairman of that union. Jamal Hossain’s sister Rikta Akter is serving as the president of Nagarkanda Upazila Jubo Mahila League.
Jamal Hossain, who grew up in an Awami-minded family, is still running from town to village in the upazila with the message of development of the Awami League government.
He has already secured a place in the hearts of the people of Nagarkanda-Saltha by providing humanitarian services during critical times of the country.
Jamal is running everywhere to spread ideals of Bangabandhu and message of peace of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Always stands by people:
Jamal Hossain Mia is not limited only to politics. He is well-known for his humanitarian gesture. When public life came to a standstill due to the outbreak of corona, he distributed relief among about 11,000 families. He also distributed PPEs and sanitisers to prevent the corona pandemic. Apart from this, he distributes iftar and food items among about 2,000 families every Ramadan. On every Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Azha, he provides thousands of needy families with food and new clothes.
Apart from this, he presented meritorious students of the fifth and eighth grades of the area with various educational materials including books, notebooks and pens. He has been widely appreciated in the area for his contribution to renovation of potholed roads and concrete bridges. He distributes warm clothes among the poor in every winter. Construction of bridges, culverts, bamboo fences, unpaved roads, mosques, madrasas, schools, disbursement of one-time cash assistance to poor and helpless students, cash assistance to flood victims and distribution of relief materials are examples of his social works. He has been involved in various social development work for a long time. Financial assistance is being given to the homeless of the upazila to build mud-roofed houses.
He stands by the people of the remote unions at their need, enlightens the area by doing various public welfare activities, drug control, distribution of rice and potatoes among the unemployed people during the corona pandemic and provides financial aid for the fire victims and other helpless people.
