Bangladesh-India talks 'positive and hopeful': Andaleeve Rahman

Bangladesh Jatiya Party Chairman Andaleeve Rahman Partho termed the recent Bangladesh-India bilateral talks as “positive,” expressing optimism that the discussions will bring good outcomes for the country.

He said, "In the meeting between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus, key issues were discussed that could benefit Bangladesh significantly."

Partho was speaking to journalists in Bhola on Saturday (April 5) during his visit to attend the 17th death anniversary of former Dhaka City Mayor and his father, Naziur Rahman Manzur.

"Major reforms are the need of the hour, and we are supporting the Yunus-led government in this process," he said. "We are hopeful about elections being held by December."

Partho said that discussions regarding candidate selection will begin in June, adding that the nature of the upcoming elections and nominations would depend entirely on the progress of electoral reforms.

“The elections have been stalled for years due to the lack of necessary reforms,” he said, adding “People want real public representatives, and we must move towards elections keeping that expectation in mind.”

He also underscored the importance of empowering local governments, stating that real development would only come through proper allocation and support for local bodies.

Earlier in the day, BJP activists and supporters welcomed Partha at the Elisha Launch Ghat area in Bhola. The 17th death anniversary of the late Naziur Rahman will be observed on Sunday.
