BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has left for Singapore with his wife, Rahat Ara Begum, for a routine medical check-up today (April 6).

The couple departed Dhaka on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight around 8:30 am, confirmed BNP Media Cell member Shairul Kabir Khan.

“Sir and Madam have gone to Singapore for medical consultations. They have scheduled appointments with specialist doctors at a clinic there,” Shairul said.

He also said that Fakhrul is expected to return within a week.

The 77-year-old BNP leader has been receiving treatment in Singapore for several years. Their last visit for medical purposes took place on September 1, 2024.

In 2015, while in prison, Fakhrul was diagnosed with a blockage in his internal carotid artery. After his release, he began undergoing treatment in Singapore and has since made annual visits for follow-up care.
