A local Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leader died in jail custody in Rajshahi on Monday (December 11).

The deceased is Md Monirul Islam, 52, assistant-publicity affairs secretary of 6 no ward BNP of Kakonhat municipality in Godagari upazila.

Hanif Ahmed, deputy jailer of Rajshahi Central Jail confirming the matter said Monirul died there at about 11:00am.

He said Monirul, was in the jail since November 7 in a case filed under the Special Power Act and the Explosive Substances Act, suddenly fell sick this morning. Later, Jail authority took him to the prison hospital from where he was shifted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital as his condition deteriorated.
