A local Awami League leader was crushed under the wheels of a train in Cumilla's Sadar Dakshin upazila this (June 24) morning.

The body was recovered beside Shikerpur rail line around 6:30am.

Deceased Abdul Momin, 57, was upazila AL forest and environment affairs secretary. He was a resident of Shikerpur village.

According to locals, Momin went out of his house in the morning, like on other days, for a morning walk. Suddenly, he was crushed under the wheels of a train while walking through the rail line.

They found the body beside the rail line and took it to his house.

Laksam Railway Crossing Police Station in-charge Murad Billah said that they are investigating the incident.

Sadar Dakshin (South) Upazila Awami League President Golam Sarwar said, "We have lost a dedicated Awami League worker. We are saddened by his death."
