A Dhaka court today (August 13) accepted a murder case against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and six others in connection with the murder of a grocery shop owner named Abu Said in the Mohammadpur area of the capital during the quota reform protest.

The court ordered the police to record a First Information Report (FIR) in the complaint register (CR) case.

Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury issued the order on Tuesday afternoon.

The other accused are -- Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, former inspector general of police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, former DB chief Harun Or Rashid, former DMP commissioner Habibur Rahman and former DMP joint commissioner Biplob Kumar Sarker.

Besides, several unnamed high police officials and government officials have also been made accused in the case.

Earlier, a Mohammadpur resident named Amir Hamza Shatil filed the case in the CMM court.

The complaint alleges that students were holding a peaceful procession in the Basila area of Mohammadpur on July 19 when police fired indiscriminately.

Local grocer Abu Saeed was shot in the head while crossing the road and died at the scene.

The complainant also claimed that former Premier Hasina had repeatedly ordered a harsh crackdown on the quota reform movement.
