Former Agriculture Minister Md Abdus Shahid was arrested from Uttara in the capital on Tuesday night.
Muhammad Talebur Rahman, deputy commissioner (DC-media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), confirmed the matter.
He said Talebur Rahman faced three murder charges filed at Uttara West Police Station, related to the killings of students and civilians in Uttara during the anti-discrimination movement.
An official confirmed his arrest at his residence in connection with these cases.
Abdus Shaheed is a seven-time elected Member of Parliament representing the Awami League in the Moulvibazar-4 constituency.
Since first being elected in 1991, he was re-elected in the 2024 National Parliament election and subsequently took on the role of Agriculture Minister.
