A local Chhatra Dal activist was shot dead by miscreants in Narsingdi’s Sadar Upazila.
The incident occurred around 11:30 pm on Saturday near the Panchdona Bazar Fish Market Mosque.
The victim, identified as Humayun Kabir, 35, was a member of the Meherpara Union Chhatra Dal and the son of Ekramul Haque from the Nagrarhat area in the same union.
Madhabadi Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Nazrul Islam stated on Sunday that the killing is believed to be related to a previous enmity.
“We are investigating the incident and are working to apprehend those responsible,” he added.
According to Humayun’s nephew, Tanmoy, Humayun and several others were playing badminton in a field near Panchdona Bazar around 11 pm when two young men, who were familiar to Humayun, approached him.
They invited him to the Panchdona Bazar Fish Market Mosque for a conversation.
Moments later, Tanmoy and the others heard gunshots. When Tanmoy rushed toward the sound, the assailants fired stray bullets at him before fleeing on a motorcycle.
Humayun, who had been injured by gunfire, was rushed to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by doctors.
