A Dhaka court today sentenced former Khulna-2 lawmaker Mizanur Rahman to eight years in prison for corruption. The conviction stems from a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in 2019.
Judge Md Abu Taher of Dhaka Special Judge Court-3 delivered the verdict, sentencing Mizanur to three years for violating the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004, along with a fine of Tk 20,000.
Additionally, he received a five-year sentence and a fine of Tk 30,000 for another charge under the same act. The sentences will run concurrently.
The court also ordered the confiscation of Tk 1.44 crore, which Rahman had illegally amassed.
The charges stemmed from Rahman's illegal accumulation of wealth totaling Tk 1.58 crore and his failure to disclose Tk 20 lakh in assets.
Mizanur, who had been on bail, was sent back to jail after the verdict was pronounced.
