DHAKA: BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir claimed that the movements staged by BNP demanding general elections under caretaker government were successful.
The spokesperson for the party came up with the observation while addressing a protest rally, arranged by Swechhasebok Dal demanding release of central leaders, at the National Press Club on Sunday.
Indicating ruling Awami League, he said, “The world witnessed that no election was possible under AL government whether general or upazila polls.”
He added: “They tried to bring the result of upazila polls in favour of them but people did not allow them to do so.”
Fakhrul also said the people proved that BNP conducted movements to establish their rights.
With Swechhasebok Dal president Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel in the chair, the protest rally was also addressed, among others, by Shamsuzzaman Khan Dudu, advisor to BNP chairperson and Asaduzzaman Khan Ripon, international affairs secretary of the party.
