Extended meeting of BNP underway, Khaleda to join virtually

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has started its extended meeting today (February 27) at the field next to Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban's LD Hall.

The meeting began at 11 am.

Approximately 3,500 leaders and activists from various parts of the country have gathered for the meeting, where BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is expected to join virtually.

The meeting is being presided over virtually by BNP's Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, who inaugurated the session earlier. BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir delivered the opening speech, setting the tone for the day-long discussions.

According to party sources, the primary objective of the meeting is to foster national and party unity, focusing on strategies for the upcoming 13th national parliamentary elections and addressing the ongoing political unrest.

About 20 minutes before the meeting commenced, BNP's Publicity Secretary Sultan Salahuddin informed attendees that Khaleda Zia would be joining the event virtually, adding significance to the gathering.

While Mirza Fakhrul was the sole speaker from the central committee, the meeting will prioritize speeches from leaders representing thana and district units, allowing grassroots voices to be heard.

Additionally, individuals who had received nominations and primary letters during the 11th parliamentary elections in 2018 were specifically invited to participate, reinforcing the party's inclusive approach.

The meeting is expected to outline BNP’s strategies and strengthen internal solidarity as the party prepares for future political challenges.
