Tarique Rahman urges party men to prepare for national polls

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman today (Feb 27) urged party people to prepare for the upcoming national elections, emphasizing the party's commitment to democracy.

"Democracy and BNP are synonymous. If democracy is endangered, BNP's interests are also endangered," Tarique Rahman said while addressing the second extended meeting of BNP's central committee virtually from London.

The meeting, held at LD Hall of the Jatiya Sangsad, is the first in seven years since February 4, 2018.

Highlighting the return of a democratic environment after the fall of what he termed a "mafia leader," Tarique called on party activists to be mentally ready for elections.

He stressed BNP’s mission to restore people's voting rights and establish a government accountable to the public, seeking their support.

Tarique Rahman warned of ongoing conspiracies to destroy national unity and disrupt the election atmosphere. "Attempts are being made to thwart the opportunity created after the ouster of Sheikh Hasina's fascist Awami League regime," he said.

He urged farmers, workers, scholars, religious leaders, and people from all walks of life to stay vigilant against any plot aimed at derailing national unity and the electoral process.

BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, speaking virtually from Tarique Rahman's London residence where she is undergoing treatment, wished the meeting's success and sought prayers from all.

Addressing reforms, he stated, "Reform is a continuous process. BNP has always embraced the people's aspirations, whether in government or opposition."
