A court in Dhaka today ordered the freezing of 44 bank accounts belonging to former industries minister and senior Awami League leader Amir Hossain Amu, his wife Saida Haque, and daughter Sumaia Hossain, in connection with graft allegations.
Dhaka Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order, allowing a petition of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Of the frozen accounts, 15 belong to Amu, 13 to his wife, 15 to his daughter, and one to Jeriko, a company linked to Amu’s business interests.
The ACC has been investigating allegations of illegal wealth accumulation by Amu and his family through tender manipulation, fraudulent appointments, and embezzlement of government project funds.
The commission expressed concerns that the accused were planning to withdraw and transfer the illicit funds as the investigation nears completion. The court's order is intended to ensure a thorough probe.
