BDB to protest jointly with BNP

DHAKA: Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh (BDB) is going to protest jointly with Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on a demand of a free and fair election under caretaker government shortly in the country.

Acting Secretary General of BNP Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Secretary General of BDB Major (retd) Abdul Mannan came up with the disclosure to the journalists at BNP Chairpeson Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan political office on Thursday.

Earlier on the day, BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, formally sat together for a meeting after nearly 12 years with Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh (BDB) President, also former president of the country, Prof AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury.

The chiefs of the two parties termed this government illegal. Moreover, at the meeting, they discussed on various issues as current political crises, January 5 election, upazila polls, and the next parliamentary polls, and work out a possible line of action to force the government to quit paving the path for a fresh election, sources added.

Secretary General of BDB Major (retd) Abdul Mannan claimed that this government has despoiled the rights of casting vote of the mass of the country. The government should sit for a discussion with the opposition parties for a free and fair election in the country soon, he added.

He further said “We will make a demonstration with BNP against this government for a democratic election but won’t make any alliance with BNP.”

Joint Secretary General of BDB Mahi B Chowdhury said that many political parties of the country along with us boycotted the election of January 5, so a demonstration would make jointly against this illegal government.

The senior leaders of the two parties were also present in the meeting where the party chiefs along with them planned for finalize the mechanism of the protest.
