GAZIPUR: A Chhatra League was killed and 25 others, including policemen, were injured in a clash between two groups of local Awami League centering upazila polls in Sreepur upazila of the district on Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Al-Amin, 28, Vice-President of Sreepur upazila Chhatra League, student wing of Awami League and son of Abul Hossain of the area.

Witnesses said supporters of Awami League-backed chairman candidate and rebel candidate of the party locked into a clash over establishing supremacy in the area around 11:30am.

On information, police rushed to the spot and opened fire to bring the situation under control, leaving 26 people injured.

Fatally injured Al-Amin died on way to hospital. The injured were rushed to local hospitals and clinics, said a spot account of the incident.

Officer-in-Charge of Sreepur Police Station Amir Hossain confirmed the incident of the clash to banglanews.
