Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) will create 10 million jobs within the first 18 months if the party forms government, said party Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
He also pledged BNP will ease the tax burden on the public.
Mirza Fakhrul made the remarks in a post on his verified Facebook page on Thursday (April 10).
The BNP shared a blueprint of the party planning while participating in the Investment Conference 2025 organised by the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA).
In the presentation titled "One Trillion Dollar Economy", the BNP aims to raise the GDP target to one trillion dollars by 2034.
Fakhrul said the party will work to increase tax collection by removing the fear of taxes and ensuring people are not overburdened.
He also mentioned that the BNP plans to raise the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI)-to-GDP ratio from the current 0.45% to 2.5%.
To attract more Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), BNP has proposed 11 regulatory reforms. Eight of them were highlighted by Fakhrul in the post: empowering BIDA, modernising visa and work permit rules, launching 24/7 investor services, enabling automatic profit repatriation, developing a skilled local workforce, ensuring investor protection through new laws, improving infrastructure, and boosting foreign employment with better training and incentives.
Fakhrul further said that if elected, the BNP will focus on enhancing human resource skills and expanding overseas employment with structured training and support, aiming for greater success than in the past.
He also shared a message from BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman on the occasion of the conference. Tarique highlighted three points: unity is the key to national development, the government of Ziaur Rahman introduced FDI laws, and the administrations led by Khaleda Zia followed investment-friendly policies.
