A leader of the Krishak Dal was hacked to death in Gazipur City Corporation's Dakshinkhan area on Friday evening (April 11). 

The victim was identified as Rakib Molla, 35, son of Ismail Molla, a resident of the area under Sadar Police Station.

According to locals and police, around 9:00 pm, assailants attacked Molla with sharp weapons, leaving him bleeding on the road. The attackers fled the scene after the assault. 

Locals who witnessed the incident rushed to his aid and transported him to Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead shortly after arrival.

Mehedi Hasan, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sadar Police Station,  confirmed the matter.

He said that upon receiving the news, police arrived at the location and recovered the body. 

According to primary investigation, he also said, the murder is believed to have taken place due to dominance in the area and a dispute over dish and internet business.

Molla had multiple injuries inflicted by sharp objects, with visible wounds to his head and neck, he added.

Authorities have launched an investigation and are taking legal steps in connection with the crime, said the official.
