The BNP on Thursday warned the interim government that it may reconsider its cooperation if a clear roadmap for holding general elections by December 2025 is not announced immediately.
At a press conference held at the BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office, BNP Standing Committee Member Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain demanded the removal of several “controversial advisers”, including those allegedly linked to a newly formed political party and National Security Adviser Khalilur Rahman, to ensure neutrality.
“The people's top priority is a free and fair election that reflects the spirit of the July mass uprising,” Mosharraf said. “If the government continues to ignore our proposals, BNP will be forced to rethink its cooperation.”
He emphasized that the interim government’s sole purpose is to hold credible elections and urged the formation of a lean advisory council to carry out routine duties.
Other BNP leaders, including Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, and Salahuddin Ahmed, were also present at the briefing.
