Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus is reportedly considering stepping down amid escalating political unrest and internal tensions within Bangladesh’s interim government.
Nahid Islam, convenor of the National Citizen Party (NCP), disclosed the development after meeting Yunus at Jamuna state guesthouse on Thursday.
Speaking to BBC Bangla, Nahid quoted Yunus expressing deep frustration and feeling "cornered" in his role, questioning the viability of leading reforms without political unity.
“He said if he cannot function effectively, there’s no point in continuing,” Nahid said, urging Yunus to stay and uphold the aspirations of the recent national movement.
Yunus reportedly told Nahid that without clear support from political parties, resignation may be the only option.
