DHAKA: The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 adjourned the argument of the defendant till March 23 in the war crimes case against Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Motiur Rahman Nizami.
Three member-ICT led by new chairman Justice M Enayetur Rahim passed the order on Thursday.
Advocate Tajul Islam will place his arguments in favour of Nizami before the court on March 23.
Later, the trial against Nizami will be ended through prosecution’s placing of counter arguments and concluding remarks on that day. The tribunal will then fix the date of verdict.
On May 28, 2012, the tribunal indicted the Jamaat Ameer for his alleged involvement in crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971.
On June 29, 2010, Nizami was arrested after a magistrate court in Dhaka issued arrest warrant in connection with a criminal case over hurting religious sentiment of Muslims.
Later on July 22, the tribunal shown him arrested in the war crimes case.
