DHAKA: The official website of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) was found closed immediate after a row over the first President of the country.
The founder of BNP, Ziaur Rahman, was shown as seventh president in the website till it was closed.
However, recently all the leaders of BNP including its Chairperson Khaleda Zia and Senior Vice-Chairman Tarique Rahman had claimed Ziaur Rahman as the first President of the country.
On the other hand the website of the party (https://bangladeshnationalistparty-bnp.org) proves their statement false as it mentioned Zia as the seventh President.
Many online and print media have published reports on the difference of information between BNP website and party leaders’ claim.
After publishing the reports regarding the matter, the party faced an embarrassing situation and as a result, the website has been closed.
An error was seen after searching the website with the same address from Saturday afternoon. Moreover, ‘Ever feel like you’re in the wrong place?’ was also shown at the website.
BNP Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said “The site might have been hacked. We will look into the details of the matter.”
Earlier on Tuesday, Tarique Rahman, at a program on London, claimed his father as the maiden President of the country and proclaimer of independence.
Moreover, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia also claimed the same on Thursday at city’s Engineers Institute auditorium.
However, the premier of the country Sheikh Hasina opposed the statement of BNP chief claming Ziaur Rahman as first President of the country.
