BARGUNA: A district court Thursday sent a total of 32 leaders and activists of BNP, including district unit president and general secretary, to jail in four separate cases for torching passenger bus and polling centers and barring police-duty.
Chief Judicial Magistrate Court judge Mahitul Islam Enam Chowdhury passed the order at 12:00pm after bail hearing.
Earlier in the morning, the leaders and activists appeared before the court and sought bails.
The BNP leaders are district unit president M Mahabubul Alam Faruk Mollah, GS SM Nazrul Islam, assistant organizing secretary Tarikuzzaman Titu and district Chhattra Dal joint convener Muraduzzaman and among others.
Earlier, several hundreds BNP men were sued in two cases filling over torching a bus and clashes with police in the Madrasa road area of the city on November 25, 2013, the day when the Election Commission announced the schedule for the 10th parliamentary election.
Two other cases were also filed over setting fire to several polling centers on January 4, the day before the election.
