SIRAJGANJ: An activist of Jamaat-e-Islami was killed and 10 others were injured in a clash with activists of ruling Awami League in Belkuchi upazila of the district on Wednesday night.
The deceased was identified as Alamgir Hossain, 25, son of Jamiruddin, resident of Bhangabari union.
Witnesses said following an altercation over the results of recently ended upazila polls, Jamaat men beat up an activist of Awami League at night.
Later, around 10:00pm, Awami League men attacked on Jamaat men that triggered a clash between the groups, leaving 11 injured.
But, Alamgir died on the way to hospital.
On information, police rushed to the spot on Thursday morning and recovered the body and held two people in this connection.
Belkuchi thana officer-in-charge Abdul Hye Sarker confirmed the matter to banglanews.
Later, district Jamaat called half-day hartal in the Bekkuchi Upazila for Sunday protesting the killing of its activist.
District Jamaat’s acting Ameer Advocate Shahinur Alam confirmed the matter to banglanews at 9:15 am.
