DHAKA: Awami League Advisory Council member Suranjit Sengupta suggested the Home Affairs Ministry to file sedition cases against BNP chief Khaleda Zia and her son Tarique Rahman over their recent controversial remarks.
He came up with observation while addressing a discussion on present politics, organized by Bangabandhu Academy (BA), at the Institute of Diploma Engineers’ auditorium in the capital on Friday.
The senior AL leaders termed the remarks made by the mother and the son seditious and asked them to ‘seek apology’ to the nation.
Suranjit Sen said: “Not the Law Ministry, I ask, the Home Ministry will have to lodge the seditious case, and if the Code of Criminal Procedure does not work, the law ministry can promulgate a small ordinance to dissolve in this regard.”
Recently, the son (Tarique) of the former prime minister has been making different confusing comments to distort the history, it would not be a matter of concern unless Khaleda and BNP leaders supported these, he added.
He added: “There is no opportunity to distort the history, the 7 March speech was part of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence is its part and parcel, if anyone twisted it, would be included in sedition.”
Presided over by BA advisor and independent lawmaker Haji Selim, lawmaker Shirin Nayeem Punam Samyabadi Dal leader Harun Chaudhury, Muktijuddha Projonmo League president Asaduzzaman, among others, spoke at the function.
