DHAKA: BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia on Saturday urged leaders and activists of her party to get ready for waging stern movement against the incumbent government in protest against “torture, killings, abductions and fake cases”.
“The incumbent government is harassing the leaders and activists of BNP in different ways. The party people are being abducted and killed,” she said.
The BNP chief came up with the plea while addressing a program of the council of Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal at Engineers’ Institute auditorium in the capital in the afternoon.
Khaleda Zia, also former premier, underscored the need to reform the party with its capable leaders and activists saying “senior leaders want to hand over leadership to young generation”.
She further blamed ruling party-men for several criminal activities for committing drug smuggling, killings, forced disappearance and so on.
The BNP Chairperson added that the universities of the country turned into “arsenal”.
Referring some newspapers, Khaleda claimed that the ruling Awami League activists captured the halls of many public universities.
She also blamed the ruling party activists for carrying firearms in the universities and creating violence on the campuses.
“Awami League does not have any control on its student leaders and activists as they share advantages,” she added.
Khaleda also said the illegal lawmakers rebuke others at the national parliament.
She also criticized the 10th national polls of January 5 and said the government is formed without the people’s mandate.
With Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal President Nazrul Islam Khan in the chair, the function was also addressed, among others, by Vice-Chairman Abdullah Al Noman and BNP Organizing Secretary Mojibur Rahman Sarwar.
