BCL activist killed at Sylhet MC College following internal feuds

SYLHET: A leader of the MC College unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League was hacked to death by his rivals near the campus Monday following internal feuds, witnesses said.

The deceased, Udoy Sinha Polash, was a third-year student of Mathematics Department.

Campus sources said Udoy’s rivals severely beat and hacked him indiscriminately near the college campus at about 1pm, leaving him seriously injured.

He was rushed to Osmani Medical College Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.

Witnesses said leaders and activists of Ranjit group in Tilagarh area had long been at loggerheads, as internecine conflicts in the student associate body of the ruling Awami League shook the organization in different parts of the country.

“In a sequel to the conflicts, a group of Chhatra League activists found Polash alone on Monday afternoon and swooped on him. They beat and stabbed him mercilessly,” says an eyewitness account of the attack.

Tensions boiled up among the BCL activists in Tilagarh area.

Police reinforcements were called in to guard the campus to fend off further outbreaks of violence.

The MC College troubles occurred in the wake of internecine clashes between rivals in the pro-government student organization in different educational institutions of the country.
