8 sent to jail in JMB militant stanching

MYMENSINGH: A court on Thursday sent eight people to jail in a case related to killing a police constable and snatching militants in Trishal upazila the district.

The accused are – Kamal Hossain Sabuz, 34, Yunus Ali Sohag, 20, Sohel Rana, 28, Morshed Alam, 22, Elias Uddin, 34, Anowar Hossain, 40, Abu Bakar Siddique, 45, and Basir Uddin, 20.

Maymensingh Chief Judicial Magistrate Court-3 passed the order fixing Sunday as the date for hearing on remand in the case after police produced them before the court seeking 10-reamand.

A group of JMB men attacked the prison van with guns and bombs, and snatched away three JMB convicts, killing one policeman and injuring two others on last February.

Two of the freed convicts -- Rakibul Hasan Russel and Salahuddin Salehin alias Sunny --were on death row. The other -- Jahidul Islam alias Bomaru Mizan-- was serving life term.

Hours after the attack, Mizan was captured from Tangail and later killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police.
