DHAKA: Awami League nominated Jebunnesa Haque Hiron, wife of Shawkat Hossain Hiron, for the by-polls of Barisal-5 constituency.

The decision came from a meeting of Awami League parliamentary committee at Ganobhaban in the capital on Thursday afternoon after the interviews of the aspirants.

On May 4, the sale of nomination form of Awami League for the constituency by-election began and continued till May 6. During this time, 12 candidates bought the nomination papers.

Earlier on April 9, Awami League lawmaker, also former Barisal city mayor Shawkat Hossain Hiron passed away at the Apollo Hospitals in the capital.
