SAVAR: BNP leaders Friday alleged that the government has created a panicky situation through an “autocratic” act like bulldozing establishments owned by opposition leader Khaleda Zia in the name of eviction drive.
The allegation came from a human chain and rally led by former BNP MP Dr Dewan Salauddin Babu in protest against the eviction of establishments from Khaleda’s land at North Ramchandrapur near the National Mausoleum.
They vowed that their movement would be carried out until possession of the land is transferred to the BNP chairperson, Khaleda Zia.
The administration Wednesday demolished over a hundred establishments, including five owned by Khaleda Zia, in the presence of police and RAB as per court direction, according to witnesses.
Khaleda Zia’s lawyer Advocate Ahmed Azam Khan told banglanews24.com.bd that the magistrate didn’t keep their request for not pulling down establishments. He, however, assured of handing over the land Saturday after verifying the document.
Later, Dhaka Deputy Commissioner Mohibul Haq said as per court direction the administration demolished the structures at Takshut and Ramchandrapur Mouja of Ashulia. Magistrate and police were present for maintaining law and order as per court order.
He added: “The administration has no authority to transfer the land’s possession to the Zia family.”
