DHAKA: A Dhaka court on Sunday issued arrest warrant against BNP senior vice-chairman Tarique Rahman for his derogatory remarks over Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Metropolitan Magistrate Waez Kuruni Khan Chowdhury passed the order after hearing a defamation case.
Earlier in the day, ruling party-backed Hawkers League General Secretary M Abdul Mannan filed the defamation suit with Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court.
In his case, Mannan also sued BNP chairperson’s adviser Mir Mohammad Nasir Uddin, BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and BNP’s International Affairs Secretary Mazedur Rahman.
On December 18, another arrest warrant was issued against the BNP leader in a case for his remarks that demeaned Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Moreover, four cases were filed against Tarique at Chittagong, Natore, Comilla and another one with Dhaka court for his remarks on Bangabandhu.
On December 15, Tarique Rahman, the elder son of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, said Sheikh Mujib was a “Razakar”, “killer”, “friend of Pakistan”,
Tarique was addressing a discussion programme on Victory Day arranged by local BNP unit, at Atrium Auditorium of East London.
