DHAKA: The main opposition BNP Sunday morning continued its mass contact and leaflet distribution for the second day to make its scheduled mass march August 9 a success, with central leaders lading at different points of the capital.
Under the 2-day warm-up move, leaders and activists are carrying out mass contact and leaflet distribution at 26 points in the city to by the mainstream opposition against the Awami League-led Grand Alliance government.
Some senior leaders on Sunday also visited the Paltan Maidan morning as part of their anti-government movement.
BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia also sat with the party senior leaders on Saturday night at her Gulshan office to drum up the mass march.
BNP is set to start demonstrations led by party chairperson on August 9 at 4pm at Muktangan in the capital in protest against government’s “misrule” and “repression” on opposition leaders and journalists.
BNP’s Secretary General Khandaker Delwar Hossain announced the grand march on July 27 at BNP’s Naya Paltan office as part of their anti-government movement.
According to Delwar, “The march is to protest “terrorism, tender-manipulation, grabbing and admission trade” allegedly by Chhatra League activists, price hike before Ramadan, preventing hunger strike, Prime Minister’s comment against Khaleda Zia, and the filing of ‘false cases’ against the party leaders.
