DHAKA: Leaders and activists of different organizations staged demonstration in front of National Press Club in the capital on Friday protesting sabotages and arson attacks during BNP-led 20-party alliance-sponsored blockade and hartal.

They also burnt the effigy of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia there, demanding her arrest and banning the politics of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chattra Shibir.

Several hundred leaders and activists of Bangladesh United Party (BUP), Online Activists Forum, Bangladesh Juba Maitree, Natun Dhara Bangladesh (NDB), Communists Party of Bangladesh (CPB), Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal (BSD), Bangladesh Poribesh Andolon (Bapa), Green Voice, Nagarik Uddog, Work for a Better Bangladesh Trust (WBB Trust), Nirapoad Develop Foundation, Nirapoad Noupatah Bastabayan Andolon, and Swadhinata League separately observed their protest programs there from this morning to noon.

Chanting slogans, they protested the nationwide destructive activities, violence and killing people by petrol bomb attacks.

BUP leaders formed human chain there at 9:30am. Speakers also threatened to besiege Khaleda’s office unless she withdraws blockade and hartals. They also demanded the ban on Jamaat-Shibir politics.

NDB leaders brought out a broom-procession on the road in front of the club around 11:00am and burnt an effigy of Khaleda followed by holding a protest rally there.
