20-party 72-hr hartal begins

DHAKA: A fresh 72-hour hartal sponsored by BNP-led 20-party alliance has begun across the country since Sunday morning.

The hartal has started from 6:00am of the day and will continue till 6:00am Wednesday, coupled with nationwide road-rail-waterway blockade for indefinite period.

Prior to the beginning of the shutdown, some sabotage were reported in the capital and elsewhere of the country Saturday night.

Two people including a boy sustained burn injury as some miscreants exploded petrol bomb in front of a police outpost in city’s Madhubagh area Saturday night.

Moreover, three students of Eden Girl’s College were also injured in another explosion in the city’s Azimpur area at night.

Miscreants exploded bombs in front of the house of opposition leader Rowshan Ershad in Mymensingh district town early Sunday. Police also detained a man in this connection.

In another incident, miscreants set fire on a goods-loaded truck in Hichmi Bazar under Kali Thana of Joypurhat Saturday night.
 
Earlier, BNP Joint Secretary General Salahuddin Ahmed, on behalf of his party chairperson Khaleda Zia and the alliance, announced the fifth spell of shutdown through issuing statement Friday afternoon.

Besides, the alliance will also observe protest programs in every upazilas, districts and divisions on Monday.

Salahuddin Ahmed asked the leaders and activists to observe their scheduled movements.
