MUNSHIGANJ: A local activist of ruling Awami League was chopped to death by miscreants in Panchgharia area of the district town on Sunday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Hossain Mridha, 40, son of Abdus Sattar Mridha and resident of Sadar upazila of the district.

Locals said that a gang of miscreants chopped Hossain with lethal weapons in the area on way to his home from the district court around 2:00pm, leaving him injured critically.

Later, locals rushed him to Munshiganj General Hospital where on-duty doctor declared him dead.

Deceased’s nephew and also an AL activist Abu Taher claimed that Hossain might have been killed over establishing supremacy in the area.

Sadar Thana Officer-in-Charge Abul Khayer Fakir confirmed the matter to banglanews.
