CHITTAGONG: BNP chairperson’s adviser M Manjur Alam on Friday collected nomination paper Friday afternoon for the re-election in the Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) after resignation from his mayoral post.

He collected his nomination paper from the office of Returning officer Abdul Baten at 4:00pm accompanied by BNP’s Vice-Chairman Abdullah Al Noman.

Prior to that Manjur submitted the resignation letter to chief executive officer M Shafiul Alam of CCC to compete in the upcoming election on the same post and handed over the charges to panel mayor-1 Mohammad Hossain as acting mayor.

After submission of the resignation letter around 3:30pm, Manjur said he resigned from the mayor post abiding by Election Commission order.

Earlier on the day, he offered special prayers at Shah Amanat Mazar.

However, BNP has given support to Manjur Alam for the polls, to be held on April 28. 

He will be contesting the polls under the banner of ‘Chattagram Unnayan Andolan’, a BNP-backed organization of teachers, professionals and intellectuals.

Earlier on March 18, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad announced the election schedule for two city corporations.

Voting at Chittagong City Corporation is scheduled to be held on April 28 while the last date of nomination paper submission is March 29.
