DHAKA: Election Commission (EC) will cancel the candidacy of the contenders for bringing out procession violating the commission’s instruction in the upcoming city polls.

Election Commissioner M Shahnewaj came up with this assertion at his office in city Wednesday noon.

He said, “We have ordered the returning officers to take necessary action and also said to be stricter in taking action against the violators of EC instructions.”

About using the mike during election campaign, the commissioner said the candidates can use microphone from 2:00pm to 9:00pm. In that case, they can use a mike in a ward and one in a street rally.

Moreover, the EC banned processions and rallies in campaign of three city corporation elections.

Elections of Dhaka South and North city corporations and Chittagong City Corporation are scheduled to be held on April 28.
