DHAKA: BNP-led 20-party alliance Monday called countrywide daylong hartal for Wednesday protesting attack on motorcade of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia.
Dhaka and Chittagong cities will be out of hartal purview due to campaign for upcoming polls.
BNP standing committee member Barrister Moudud Ahmed made the hartal announcement from a press briefing at Nayapaltan central office on Monday evening.
The alliance will also stage protest on Tuesday on the same ground.
Earlier in the day, motorcade of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia came under attack on Monday afternoon during campaign for Dhaka City Corporations polls at Karwanbazar in the capital.
Three people were injured and five vehicles were vandalized during attack when the motorcade reached at Karwanbazar routing Gulshan-2, Banani, Mohakhali and Farmgate.
