DHAKA: The dawn-to-dusk hartal, sponsored by BNP-led 20-party alliance, is underway on Wednesday across the country. No incidents of violence were reported till filing of the report.
Began at 6:00am, the shutdown, protesting Monday’s attack on BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s motorcade in the city, will continue till 6:00pm on the day.
However, Dhaka and Chittagong cities remained out of the purview of the hartal for the campaign of the upcoming polls.
Earlier on Monday, Khaleda’s motorcade came under attack in the city’s Karwanbazar during her campaign for Dhaka City Corporations polls that left three people injured.
Following the attack, BNP standing committee member Barrister Moudud Ahmed announced a daylong nationwide shutdown at a press brief at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office in the city in evening of the day.
